A Garden through time

Decade-by-decade The Cambridge University Botanic Garden has changed and developed – in some areas beyond recognition – since WWII. The allotments in the eastern half of the Garden were reclaimed and transformed into new plantings and landscaping.  Changing Perspectives: a Garden through time follows these developments decade-by-decade from the 1950s to the 2000s.  Follow the story of the Botanic Garden as it has grown, expanded and changed since WWII: 1950s Brave New Garden, 1960s Ecology by Design, 1970s Conservation, Conservation, Conservation, 1980s Biodiversity, 1990s Sustainability for Survival, 2000s Engaging with Plant Sciences, The Future is Now.

Each decade includes sections detailing Key Events from the decade.  You will meet some Key People involved in the shaping of the Garden.  Click on the links to explore the Garden From the Air through aerial photographs and maps, scroll along the digital Timeline and listen to Garden Voices talking about aspects of the decade.
