1996 - Version 2lowlarge

By 1996, the trees, shrubs and borders in the Eastern section of the Garden had matured. This vertical photograph of the Garden, dated 13th June 1996, shows light areas of the lawns, evidence of a warm dry summer.  It pre-dates the Grass Maze, which was planted in 1997. The cruciform-shape of the Gilmour Building roof can be seen among the trees between the Glasshouse range and Cory Lodge.  The large shrub, Garrya elliptica, or Silk-tassle bush in the centre of the Main Lawn, has since been removed to allow the Lawn to be opened up.  The Main Lawn is now used for Summer Proms events.
